GIVAT HAVIVA, founded in 1949, is Israel's oldest and largest organization working for civil society, peace, tolerance and democracy. In 2001, Givat Haviva was awarded the UNESCO PRIZE FOR PEACE EDUCATION for its innovative programmes and in July 2003 Givat Haviva, working with a Palestinian partner announced the re-opening of "Peace Radio" station. Examples of Givat Haviva’s innovative programmes include: ‘CHILDREN TEACHING CHILDREN’ equips Jewish and Arab high school students with tools to respect cultural differences and build understanding. This award-winning programme is delivered by Givat Haviva’s Jewish-Arab Center for Peace. ‘THROUGH OTHERS' EYES’, an innovative youth photography project delivered by Givat Haviva’s Arts Center, brings Israeli Arab and Jewish youth together to learn photography. To complete the course, they visit each other’s homes and communities, to photograph, "Through Others' Eyes'" how their new friends live, work, study and play. Other ARTS CENTER programs include: EARTH HOUSE, a meeting place built by Jewish and Arab youth using only earth and traditional building materials; PEACE POLE, a massive fallen eucalyptus trunk that was carved into a symbol of peace by Israeli Arab, Druze and Jewish youth. MORESHET - HOLOCAUST EDUCATION AND RESEARCH CENTER programs teach the lessons of the Holocaust, the importance of tolerance and respect and the dangers of racism, Moreshet programs include the new Abba Kovner resistance archives, a new initiative on Children in the Holocaust, the exhibit "Faces of Resistance: Women in the Holocaust"
